We have enjoyed our cute wedges all summer and now and thankfully shoe trends is nothing short of an eclectic mix of colours, materials, and heel sizes for our pickings. Spotted on the runway, here are the top looks in shoes to expect in the upcoming months.

Socks and Shoes- The ankle sock and heel combination continues to be popular, even though some of us shy away from it. When you mention shoes and socks all you think about is the dreaded white-socks-and-sandals combination, but this really can be a cute look.

An iridescent sock in a stacked heel or pump combination can rock. There are lots of cute socks available to buy so you’re sure to find something unique.

Reptile Skins- Snakeskin and crocodile leather, or kinder faux versions, will be hugely popular this year. Look for these in the season’s hottest shades, burgundy, grey, and black. You can also try accessorising with snakeskin handbags or belts to continue the look through the rest of your outfit.

Patent Leather- The shine factor continues to dominate in the cooler weather and can really dress up an outfit. A trend on the runway that may be better left there: bold colour combinations, such as red and black shoes. Again, handbags and belts will follow this trend.

Platforms, Wedges and Chunks- We got to enjoy our ballerina flats for a while, but this year is about height. Wedges thankfully transfer back from the summer and platforms are elegant this season.

Chunky heels win us over this year too, instead of the fine stiletto. If you do opt for a towering heel, remember that it won’t see you all the way through winter – the snows of earler in the year are a warning to stick to flats on some days.

Laces and Buckles- Laceups continue to make an impact, especially on higher shoes and boots. The cage shoe and gladiator styling is still evident in versions that are more wintery. Buckles add details too. Why not be unique and buy your own buckles or embroidery to stick on to your new favourite shoes?

Satin- Satin shoes are all the rage now, and are a great material alternative to leather or suede.

Remember that this season’s colours are burgundy and midnight. These might be subdued after the summer’s bright shades but autumn is all about looking stylish and smart.
